And the Award Goes to . . .

This woman’s brilliance and success are inspiring. I can’t help but wonder if she had been male, would the prize have been co-awarded to her, since she was also a graduate assistant. It troubled me when I entered tenure track that graduate assistants and junior faculty members would see their work published under the names of others who had seniority. Even though I went through it myself (perhaps because I went through it myself) I refused to subject anyone who worked with me to this tradition, as I perceived it to be a type of plagiarism or fraud.

Here’s to the hopeful end of an era in which taking credit for the work of those who you train or mentor is no longer acceptable.
